In line with current developments and challenges in the European Union, the European Innovation Council (EIC) publishes its Work Programme every year. This is a legally binding document that sets out how the EIC will use its resources for the year in question. The Work Programme is drawn up in consultation with the EIC Board and adopted by the European Commission.

The 2024 Work Programme is expected to be published in December this year. It will set out the next application deadlines and the requirements for submitting applications. It will also describe the thematic challenges for 2024 in the EIC Pathfinder, EIC Transition and EIC Accelerator.

On 15 January 2024, starting at 9:30 Central European Time (CET), the EIC will host a Digital Info Day on the 2024 Work Programme. The event is aimed at potential applicants and will provide an overview of the innovations in the EIC's funding instruments. Participants will also get an insight into the achievements of previous Work Programmes.

High-level speakers from the EIC, EISMEA (European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency), the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide an overview of the three EIC funding programmes:

  • The EIC Pathfinder enables advanced research into breakthrough or  disruptive technologies.
  • The EIC Transition supports the transition phase of research results  into innovation opportunities.
  • The EIC Accelerator supports individual start-ups and small and medium- sized enterprises to prepare breakthrough innovations with high risk and promising potential for market launch.

Special sessions will also be held to present the various support opportunities, such as access to coaches, mentors, global partners and the innovation ecosystem. The Business Acceleration Services (BAS) are available to all projects funded by the EIC. A new feature of the new 2024 work programme for project implementation is the use of lump sums for all three funding instruments. The EIC is also planning a presentation on this in the morning of the Info Day.
