Technology transfer

As ESA Technology Broker Germany, we are bridging the gap between space technologies and non-space industries. Our objectives: on the one hand, we are supporting you in solving your industrial challenges and, on the other hand, we are facilitating the transfer of terrestrial innovations into space.
  • Solving industrial challenges with space technology: as technology brokers, we identify and showcase technologies that have been developed in and for space and can contribute to solve problems in non-space sectors. For example, using sensors miniaturised and ruggedised for space use to develop point-of-care medical diagnostic devices.

  • Bringing terrestrial innovations into space: we are also supporting companies in adapting cutting-edge terrestrial technologies for use in space applications. This includes innovations in fields such as robotics, AI and quantum technologies that can benefit space missions or satellite operations.

  • In addition, as “ESA Technology Broker Germany”, we are responsible for awarding and implementing the ESA Spark Funding programme in Germany. This programme aims to support the transfer of space technologies and know-how to non-space sectors as well as to the space sector (spin-off and spin-in).

  • INNOspace networks: In order to make the benefits of space technologies and data visible to various non-space sectors , the German Space Agency at DLR has launched the INNOspace® initiative. It is part of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy's ‘National Programme for Space and Innovation’ and part of High-Tech Strategy 2025 of the German government. The aims of the networks are to establish cross-sectoral networking as well as to initiate and consolidate synergies.
