+++ Energy consulting blog series (part 8) +++ Do you want to renovate or build in an energy-efficient way as a municipality or company – and use state funding for the construction supervision? Are you facing an impenetrable funding jungle and want support? We at EurA AG have taken on the topic of energy-efficient renovation in the context of funding advice and construction supervision from our energy efficiency experts. In this blog article, we would like to explain what funding opportunities are available for expert energy planning and what advantages construction supervision offers.

Professional construction supervision from an energy consultant

Qualified construction supervision ensures that efficiency measures are planned optimally. With our experts, we can provide you with optimal support as early as the technical planning stage and assist you in the following areas:
  • Thermal insulation certificate GEG and energy balancing DIN-V 18599
  • Summer thermal insulation DIN 4108
  • Component verification for approvals (U-value calculation)
  • Calculation of the energy efficiency of a building for renovations (EH-85 / 70 / 55 / 40)
  • DENA energy performance certificates (demand-based and consumption-based)

The process of an energy consultant supervising a construction project essentially consists of providing advice before the start of construction, regular site inspections, developing energy-related measures, documenting these in reports and the final acceptance.

Energy consulting for non-residential buildings: renovation and new construction

Subsidised energy consulting for existing and new non-residential buildings is offered by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA). As part of Module 2 of the ‘Federal Funding for Energy Consulting for Non-residential Buildings, Plants and Systems’, energy consulting in accordance with DIN V 18599 is eligible for funding.

Renovation: On the one hand, a consultancy grant is available for existing buildings. An energy-efficient renovation concept shows either how the building can be modernised step by step using coordinated measures (‘step-by-step renovation’) or how a comprehensive renovation can achieve the Efficiency House Standard according to BEG (‘renovation in one go’). Within this standard, various efficiency levels are possible: at least ‘Efficiency House 85’ or better.

New construction: On the other hand, a subsidy can be granted for energy consulting on new buildings if the goal is a BEG-funded efficiency house. The consulting is provided as part of the federal funding programme ‘Climate-friendly new construction’ (KFN), which is part of the BEG. A KFN is based on the ‘Efficiency House 40’ standard. The consulting can be used, for example, for the construction of energy-efficient company buildings.

The BAFA subsidises energy consulting for non-residential buildings with 50% of the consultancy fees for eligible costs of up to 4,000 euros, with the exact amount depending on the net floor area of the building. In any case, an energy efficiency expert (EEE) is required for BAFA-subsidised energy consulting.

Energy planning and construction supervision for individual measures

Another BAFA funding opportunity also covers residential buildings. Municipalities can use the consulting, for example, to modernise municipal housing. The BAFA funds the renovation of residential and non-residential buildings in line with the ‘Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings’ (BEG). It provides a grant for expert energy planning and construction supervision. However, BAFA funding for construction supervision can only be applied for in connection with the funding itself. Here, too, the involvement of an energy efficiency expert is required to submit an application.

The individual measures (BEG EM) include:
  • Plant engineering (except heating)
  • heat generation systems (heating technology)
  • individual measures to the building envelope
  • heating optimisation (subsidised construction supervision only for residential buildings)

In connection with these individual measures, the funding rate for expert energy planning and construction supervision is 50% of the consultancy fee for eligible costs of up to €20,000.

Efficient renovation – with experts at your side

As a company or municipality, you can benefit from expert energy planning and construction supervision to help you renovate your buildings to make them more energy efficient. This will enable you to benefit from lower energy consumption and significant cost savings in the long term. The German government offers attractive funding programmes for this purpose, subsidising up to 50% of energy consulting costs.

Use our expertise in energy consulting to optimise the renovation and energy efficiency of your buildings. As listed energy efficiency experts, we are happy to assist you and support you along the way.
