The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism has initiated Invest BW as the largest open-sector investment and innovation funding program in the history of Baden-Württemberg. There is now a new open-topic call for funding until 31.10.2024, which supports “smart solutions for climate protection and digitalization”.

Invest BW has focused on promoting innovation. Since 2021, the state of Baden-Württemberg has spent a total of around 300 million euros with the program, which has benefited start-ups and SMEs. Around 10 million euros are available for the new call. 

You can currently apply for funding calls. These are usually topic-related, but there may also be open calls. There is now a new mission-oriented funding call until 31.10.2024: “Invest BW - Innovation III” promotes “smart solutions for climate protection and digitalization.”

In the area of innovation funding, companies from Baden-Württemberg are eligible to apply, in the case of joint projects also in cooperation with research institutions, universities and other companies. The projects must aim to develop new products, services, business models and business processes. 

They can be subsidized with grants of between 20,000 euros and 650,000 euros (for individual projects) or 1.3 million euros (for joint projects). Funding rates of up to 45% are possible. The maximum implementation period for funded projects is 24 months.

Eligible costs are personnel expenses, external services and a flat-rate overhead allowance. In justified individual cases, research institutions can also receive funding for material expenses and travel costs.

The application procedure has a two-stage structure: 

1st stage: Project outlines and selection
2nd stage: Funding applications and approval procedure

Outlines should initially be submitted to the project management organization by 1 p.m. on 31.10.2024. Only once the projects have been selected for application is an application to be submitted.
